BANGOR (WGME) — Two people are facing drug charges after authorities say they found over $40,000 worth of fentanyl during a traffic stop in Bangor on Tuesday.
The MDEA says they received information about two people driving to Maine from Massachusetts to distribute drugs in Penobscot County.
According to the MDEA, based on this information, police stopped a vehicle on Union Street in Bangor.
Authorities say they searched the vehicle and found approximately 290 grams of fentanyl and $560 in suspected drug proceeds. The estimated street value of the drugs is over $40,000.
According to the MDEA, the people in the vehicle, 31-year-old Jasmine Donovan of Monticello and 29-year-old Sandy Alexander Mateo-Ruiz of the Dominican Republic, were arrested.
The pair was charged with aggravated trafficking schedule W drugs (fentanyl) and taken to the Penobscot County Jail.
Mateo-Ruiz’s bail was set at $100,000 cash and bail for Donovan was set at $50,000 cash.
