A murder investigation is under way after a man was shot dead in Lewisham in south-east London, police said.
The Metropolitan Police said officers were called to Catford Broadway at about 04:30 GMT on Sunday along with paramedics from London Ambulance Service (LAS).
A man believed to be in his thirties was found with a gunshot wound and was pronounced dead at the scene.
The force said no arrests have yet been made in connection with the incident.
‘Significant cordon in place’
In a statement, the Met said it is “in the process” of informing the man’s next of kind of his death.
Enquiries by investigators are ongoing and the force said “a significant cordon remains in place at the scene”.
Catford Broadway runs behind Lewisham Town Hall and the Broadway Theatre, and is home to a number of shops.
Ch Supt Trevor Lawry said: “The incident took place in a busy part of south London and I’m hopeful there will have been a number of witnesses who I would appeal to come forward.
“I know such a shocking incident will cause great concern in the community and want to reassure residents that we have assigned significant resources to this investigation.
“We also have officers patrolling the local area and I would urge those with concerns to talk to them.”
