On 20 September, World Cleanup Day, the EU Delegation to Moldova took part in a large-scale initiative to collect rubbish on the banks of the Nistru River near the village of Telita, in the Anenii Noi district. Representatives from European embassies and institutions, local authorities, and the community joined forces to help maintain the cleanliness of the area.
Team Europe collected dozens of bags of waste, which were then divided into recycling categories (plastic bottles and containers, paper and cardboard, materials containing and not containing metals). This will ensure proper and sustainable management.
Jānis Mažeiks, the Ambassador of the European Union to the Republic of Moldova, said: “Actions like today’s are not only symbolic but also serve as a direct call to civic responsibility, respect for nature, and a more sustainable lifestyle. Protecting the environment is essential not only for our health but also for future generations.”
World Clean Day is held annually on 20 September. This global initiative brings together communities from all over the planet to combat the problem of waste and promote sustainable resource management.
