SALT LAKE CITY (KUTV) — A 35-year-old man was taken into custody after facing two federal indictments related to a mail robbery and drug and gun offenses committed in Utah while on probation for previous crimes.
Andres “Junior” Garcia, a Salt Lake City resident, made his initial court appearance Friday, Oct. 4, following his arrest in Sept. 2024. The indictments accuse him of robbing a U.S. Postal Service van and dealing in illegal drugs and firearms.
According to court documents, Garcia allegedly stole mail from a U.S. Postal Service Can in February 2024, threatening a postal worker when confronted. He reportedly reached into his sweatshirt, suggesting he had a weapon, and told the worker to “get back” before fleeing the scene with the mail.

Garcia was on felony probation at the time of these alleged offenses and considered a restricted person.
The cases are under investigation by the Unified Police Department of Greater Salt Lake’s Metro Gang Unit, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives, and the United States Postal Inspection Service.
The United States Attorney’s Office for the District of Utah is prosecuting the case against Garcia.
