Oakland Co. Doctor Charged After Illegally Selling Cancer Drugs: Feds

ROYAL OAK, MI — A Royal Oak doctor was arrested Thursday after he illegally sold more than $17 million in prescription cancer drugs, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Michigan.

Dr. Naveed Aslam, 51, of West Bloomfield, was charged with one count of conspiracy to illegally sell or trade prescription drugs and ten counts of illegally selling or trading prescription drugs.

Aslam, a licensed physician at Somerset Hematology and Oncology, P.C., worked with several other people to buy and sell expensive cancer drugs for profit and the intention to defraud and mislead, according to federal officials.

Aslam’s accomplices then used their companies to sell the drugs to customers, according to federal officials.

Aslam made more than $2.5 million in the scheme, which began in early 2019 and ran through August 2023, according to federal officials.

“A physician’s ethical responsibility is to their patients, not to selling cancer drugs under the table for profit,” HSI Detroit Special Agent in Charge Angie Salazar said in the release. “We will protect patients against fraud, especially from those in positions of public trust who choose greed over public safety.”
