According to court documents, Marcell Alexander Kirk, 23, ran from police in November 2023. During the foot chase, Kirk got rid of a loaded handgun, and once he was caught, police found he was in possession of roughly 140 grams of marijuana.
DAVENPORT, Iowa — A Davenport man was sentenced Thursday to eight years in federal prison for possessing a firearm as a felon and for using the gun to further his drug trafficking.
According to court documents, Marcell Alexander Kirk, 23, ran from police in November 2023. During the foot chase, Kirk got rid of a loaded handgun, and once he was caught, police found he was in possession of roughly 140 grams of marijuana.
In 2020, the Iowa District Court for Scott County found Kirk guilty of criminal gang participation, making it illegal for Kirk to own or possess a firearm as a felon.
After his prison term, Kirk will be required to serve a three-year, supervised release, as there is no parole in federal law court system.
