MADISON, WI (WSAU) — A 27-year-old Schofield woman will serve 4.5 years in federal prison after pleading guilty to one count of conspiracy to distribute cocaine.
Teala L. Kumbera pled guilty to the charge in federal court earlier this summer. Officers discovered she had been part of a distribution ring operating in Central Wisconsin for years.
The investigation into the ring involved multiple controlled purchases and the seizure of drug-laden packages from the mail. They also took multiple firearms and drugs from home raids.
Kumbera was identified as one of the leaders of the ring through intercepted phone calls. They also discovered that she was picking up cocaine to deliver every few days. She later admitted to police that she had been selling cocaine regularly for the last six to twelve months.
Kumbera was on probation for two prior meth trafficking charges at the time of her arrest on the new charges, which triggered additional state prison time which will run concurrently with the federal sentence.
US District Judge William Conley handled the sentencing, noting her prior criminal history and the serious nature of the case, which involved her regularly obtaining significant quantities of cocaine for resale.
Multiple local and county law enforcement agencies investigated the case along with the Central Wisconsin Narcotics Task Force.
