VIDEO: Drug trafficking suspects arrested following high-speed pursuit; foot chase (DPS Aero Bureau)
TOOELE, Utah — Two men were taken into custody after leading troopers and the Department of Public Safety aero bureau on a pursuit and foot chase on I-80 in Tooele County.
On November 4, members of the FBI Wasatch Metro Drug Task Force learned Timothy Barfield was driving back into Utah after leaving the state weeks prior. Barfield’s vehicle was spotted and a pursuit ensued. Stop sticks were used to try and deflate one of the vehicles tires and the car came to a stop. As multiple troopers arrived on the side of the freeway, the car took off, reaching speeds of nearly 110 miles per hour heading towards Tooele and Salt Lake City.
Another officer used stop sticks and rendered a ‘positive hit’. Barfield and Caleb Graham were in the vehicle. Before stopping a second time, they threw a bag outside of the window onto the shoulder. All of this was caught on camera by the DPS Aero Bureau ‘Star 8’ helicopter from above. Barfield and Graham took off on foot, running and falling through marshy land before being located and taken into custody roughly a mile from the car.
According to a probable cause affidavit, the bag that was thrown onto the side of the freeway contained:
- 13.8 grams of fentanyl powder
- 6000 fentanyl pills
- 440 grams of methamphetamine
- 471 grams of cocaine
- 107 grams of crack cocaine
Responding officers treated the situation as a ‘high risk stop’ due to both suspects criminal history. According to the charging documents, Barfield’s history includes sexual battery, manslaughter, firing a weapon from a vehicle, assault with a firearm on a person, child cruelty and fleeing from police. Graham’s history included threats to kill another person, promoting prostitution and possession with intent to distribute.
Also noted in the charging documents, members of the FBI Wasatch Metro Drug Task Force served a search warrant on a home in the Salt Lake Valley where Barfield and Graham reside. Seized were seven pounds of methamphetamine, 2500 fentanyl pills, one pound of cocaine and multiple firearms.
Both Barfield and Graham are in the Tooele County Jail being held without bail.
