First, though, a little explanation of how this list is selected. Resonance Consultancy is a Canadian tourism and real estate advisory business, and each year it publishes an annual round-up of the best cities in the world.
The largest cities in areas with a population of one million or more are analysed in great detail across three main categories to produce Resonance Consultancy’s ranking.
Liveability (air quality, rent costs, green spaces), loveability (nightlife, dining options, social media activity), and prosperity (unemployment, GDP per capita, and education) are the three areas studied.
London is ranked as the ‘Best City’ for 2025
As reported by Time Out, London has been crowned the ‘Best City in the World’ for the 10th consecutive year. Resonance praised the UK capital for its “resilient spirit and unmatched global appeal,” excelling in categories such as nightlife and airport connectivity. London’s ability to attract tourists, investors, and students cements its status as a global gem.
Paris is the third ‘Best City’ for 2025
Paris continues to shine on the global stage, taking the third spot for 2025. The French capital was celebrated for its world-famous landmarks and luxury shopping, which keep it a firm favourite with visitors and residents alike. Resonance also highlighted the city’s “Plan Vélo,” an ambitious cycling initiative aimed at enhancing liveability by reducing car traffic in central neighbourhoods.
Spain scores twice in the top 10 ‘Best cities’ for 2025
Spain showcases its appeal with Madrid ranked seventh and Barcelona eighth. Both cities earned high marks for their vibrant cultural scenes, architectural wonders, and exceptional food. These dynamic destinations remain go-to hubs for expats and travellers seeking the best of European living.
