A baby boy has died after a rescue operation at Ullapool Harbour in the Highlands.
Emergency services were alerted to a person in the water at about 13:20 on Monday.
Police Scotland said the baby was taken to Raigmore Hospital in Inverness by air ambulance but was pronounced dead a short time later.
A spokeswoman said an investigation was ongoing, adding that the death was not being treated as suspicious.
She said a report would be submitted to the procurator fiscal in due course.
Local Highland councillor Liz Kraft said she wished to offer her deepest condolences to the boy’s family.
She added “the tragic incident would no doubt affect the whole community”.
Scottish Ambulance Service and HM Coastguard personnel were involved in the rescue operation.
Coastguard teams from Ullapool, Achiltibuie and Inverness, Stornoway coastguard helicopter and RNLI Lochinver’s lifeboat were sent to the scene at Ullapool’s Shore Street, a seafront area with shops and cafes.
Harbour staff also assisted.
