Chinese carmaker GAC is considering producing electric vehicles (EVs) in Europe to avoid EU tariffs, according to its international business general manager, Wei Heigang, cited in a Reuters story.
GAC, one of China’s largest automakers, aims to sell 500,000 vehicles overseas by 2030.
While it currently doesn’t sell EVs in Europe, GAC will debut an electric SUV, the Aion V, at the Paris Auto Show.
The company is exploring local production as a way to address the impact of EU tariffs on Chinese-made EVs.
GAC is still in the early stages of deciding whether to build a new plant or use an existing one. The Aion V will launch in Europe in 2025.
