Police arrested a man wanted in a drug trafficking case after he led officers on a pursuit through several backyards in Brookside on Thursday afternoon.
Officers attempted a traffic stop around 3:15 p.m. after learning Christopher Michael Helton was in midtown Tulsa, police said in a news release. A warrant was issued April 22 in Osage County for Helton, 47, after he failed to appear in court on charges including drug trafficking and possession of a firearm after a former felony conviction. Judges in Creek County and Cherokee County have also issued warrants in drug trafficking cases after Helton failed to appear in those jurisdictions, according to online court records.
Helton was driving a white pickup when he was located near 31st and Riverside, police said. He reportedly ignored officers’ attempts at a traffic stop and began circling the neighborhood near 41st and Madison at low speeds.

“At one point during the pursuit, Helton tossed a bag out of the car window containing a large amount of methamphetamine,” according to the release. “Helton then drove over a brick wall, through several backyards, then crashed into a fence.”
A canine police unit helped locate Helton in a residential backyard, where he reportedly was attempting to use yard debris as camouflage. He was taken into custody without further incident, arrested on complaints related to the pursuit and possession of drugs and firearms.
