A former Massachusetts correction officer has been arrested after she was accused of smuggling illegal drugs into a state prison in Shirley, Massachusetts.Roxsandra Wright, a former correction officer at the Massachusetts Correctional Institution in Shirley, was arrested on Sunday following a joint investigation by the Department of Correction and Massachusetts State Police.A statement from the Department of Correction said the investigation had determined that Wright had been bringing synthetic cannabinoid-laced paper into the prison and delivering it to a prisoner.Wright was taken into custody on a felony warrant issued by Ayer District Court and now faces criminal charges.”The Massachusetts Department of Correction holds all staff members to the highest standards of professionalism and integrity,” DOC Interim Commissioner Shawn Jenkins said in a statement. “Any behavior that compromises the safety and security of our facilities, or undermines public trust, will not be tolerated. I want to thank the Massachusetts State Police for their invaluable coordination and collaboration on this matter.”Wright resigned from her position in October and is expected to be arraigned in Ayer District Court on Monday.A statement from the Massachusetts Correction Officers Federal Union said they are grateful for the work the Department of Correction and state police put in to apprehend Wright.”Her actions have put all of our members, employees and inmates at risk,” the statement said. “We stand united with the law enforcement and public safety community in the quest to root out anyone who bring drugs and dangerous contraband into prisons.”
