{KXLG – Lake Norden, SD} A traffic stop led to the arrest of a 19-year-old from Lake Norden, SD, when a Hamlin County Sheriff’s Office deputy responded to a 911 call reporting reckless driving. Angel Lozano-Casanova, the 19-year-old passenger in the vehicle, has been convicted of Underage Purchase, Possession, or Consumption of Alcohol and Open Container in a Motor Vehicle.
He was sentenced to 5 days in jail (3 days suspended), fines and costs of $578.50 for each offense, and completion of a chemical dependency evaluation and any recommended treatment.
In the initial report, the vehicle, occupied by two young males, was located three miles east of Lake Norden on 453rd Avenue and 194th Street. A K-9 officer from the Lake Norden Police Department discovered the vehicle parked at a local business. Upon approaching the vehicle, the officer detected an odor of alcohol and initiated a search. The search yielded marijuana wax, several vape pens, a bong, and a couple of bottles of whiskey.
The driver, 19-year-old Sloan York from Bryant, was arrested on multiple charges, including Possession of a Controlled Substance, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, Underage Possession of Tobacco, and Exhibition Driving. He was convicted in Hamlin County court in June 2024 for Underage Possession and Consumption of Alcohol and Possession and Consumption of Delta 8.
