A major city route has been shut to traffic due to a “serious incident”, police have said.
The A34, Kingsway, in Manchester was closed between Parrs Wood Lane and Queensway at about 04:30 GMT.
Greater Manchester Police said drivers should avoid the area as the road was likely to be closed for “several hours” while officers investigate.
The closure has had a major impact on rush hour traffic, with long queues forming on the route.
Bus services around the East Didsbury area have been delayed by about 60 minutes, but the tram stop close to the incident remains open.
