IT STARTED AS A TRAFFIC STOP AT ABOUT 1 A.M. NEAR SOUTHWEST 59TH AND MAY, AND ENDED AT THE SUSPECT’S HOUSE NEAR SOUTHWEST 66TH AND PENN. POLICE SAY THAT THEY DETAINED THE PASSENGER, BUT THE DRIVER OF THE CAR, 43 YEAR OLD TIMOTHY FOSTER, GOT BACK IN AND SPED OFF. WE’RE TOLD AT LEAST ONCE OFFICERS FIRED BACK AT FOSTER WHEN HE HAD STOPPED TO SHOOT AT THEM, AND THEN THEY GOT TO HIS HOUSE. THE SUSPECT GOT OUT OF THE VEHICLE AND RESUMED SHOOTING AT. OFFICERS CONTINUED TO FIRE. OFFICERS RETURNED FIRE. THE SUSPECT WAS HIT. HE WENT INSIDE THE RESIDENCE. ULTIMATELY, OUR TACTICAL UNIT RESPONDED TO THE SCENE, MADE ENTRY, AND TOOK THE SUSPECT INTO CUSTODY. THAT SUSPECT IS EXPECTED TO SURVIVE. HE WILL BE TAKEN TO JAIL ONCE HE LEAVES THE HOSPITAL. During the stop, police said a passenger in the front seat got out of the vehicle and was detained. The driver, identified as Timothy Foster, also got out of the car but then got back in and sped away, starting a chase. Police said Foster stopped multiple times and fired at the officers who were chasing after him. During at least one of those stops, officers returned fire. The pursuit ended when Foster pulled into his driveway at a home near Southwest 59th Street and Pennsylvania Avenue. The Oklahoma City Police Department’s tactical unit responded and went into the home, where they found Foster lying on the floor. He was taken into custody and then to an area hospital for injuries he received during the gunfight, according to police. He will be booked into the Oklahoma County Detention Center on multiple counts, including assault and battery with a deadly weapon on police officers. Three Oklahoma City police officers involved in the shooting – Robert Allen (17 years of service), Officer Dalton Johnson (four years of service) and Officer Joanna Weiss (two years of service) – have been placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of an investigation.
