Suspect in custody after narcotics-related chemicals dumped in Everett, Malden
SCENE. JOHN. YEAH. ED THOSE HAZMAT CREWS, THEY HAVE BEEN HERE FOR HOURS TODAY, JUST BEHIND US HERE YOU CAN SEE THE STREET STILL SHUT DOWN AS THEY INVESTIGATE DANGEROUS CHEMICALS THEY SAY WERE FOUND HERE. FIRE ENGINES AND HAZMAT SUIT. IT’S SCARY. IT’S VERY SCARY TO ME. BIG SPOTLIGHTS ARE HELPING HAZMAT CREWS WORK LATE INTO THE NIGHT USING PROTECTIVE SUITS AS THEY GO IN AND OUT OF A HOME ON GLEDHILL AVENUE. I CAN’T BELIEVE SOMEBODY IS DOING IT RIGHT HERE IN A VERY NICE HOUSE. YOU KNOW, YOU DON’T KNOW WHO TO TRUST ANYMORE. OFFICIALS SAY THEY’RE INVESTIGATING AN ILLEGAL DRUG MAKING OPERATION AFTER REPORTS THAT SOMEONE WAS DISPOSING DANGEROUS CHEMICALS. I SAID TO MYSELF, OH, MY GOD, THANK GOD I WASN’T WALKING DOWN HERE WITH A BABY. ONE DAY IN THE PLACE. BLEW UP. BECAUSE IF IT BLEW UP, IT WOULD TAKE EVERYBODY OUT OF HERE, RIGHT? POLICE ALSO CLOSED DOWN A LARGE SECTION OF LYNN STREET ABOUT A MILE AWAY IN MALDEN, WHERE WHITE STREAKS COULD BE SEEN ON THE STREET. THERE WERE ALSO CHEMICAL CONTAINERS ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. I MEAN, I WORRY MORE ABOUT THE KIDS BECAUSE THE KIDS ARE OUT HERE PLAYING ALL THE TIME. THE HOME AT THE CENTER OF THE INVESTIGATION IS JUST STEPS FROM EVERETT HIGH SCHOOL, AND NEIGHBORS ARE RELIEVED THAT OFFICIALS NOW SAY THERE IS NO DANGER TO THE SURROUNDING AREA. WE JUST HAVE TO THANK BE THANKFUL THAT IT WAS UNCOVERED AND THAT NOTHING BAD HAPPENED AND THAT WE CAN JUST KIND OF MOVE ALONG. NOW, POLICE TONIGHT HAVE SAID VERY LITTLE ABOUT THE INVESTIGATION HERE, AND THEY HAVE NOT SAID IF ANYONE MAY HAVE BEEN TAKEN INTO CUSTOD
