Reinsurance vet to build local teams and deliver client-focused solutions
Howden Re has announced the appointment of Thomas Kroely (pictured above) as managing director for Continental Europe.
Kroely will focus initially on supporting Howden Re’s European expansion, with plans to build a local team after completing existing contractual obligations in 2025.
Kroely joins Howden Re with extensive experience in the reinsurance sector. Most recently, he served as client reinsurance director at Aon in Paris, a position he held from April 2022 to November 2024. Before that, Kroely spent over 13 years at Willis Re, where he held various leadership roles, including head of France, Belgium, and Luxembourg.
His earlier experience includes roles in reinsurance brokerage, actuarial services, and financial analysis at companies such as Brit Insurance and Generali France. Kroely holds an actuarial degree from the Institut de Science Financière et d’Assurances (ISFA).
Tobias Andersson, head of Continental Europe for Howden Re International, welcomed the addition of Kroely to the leadership team.
“It is with great pleasure that we announce that Thomas will be joining our team,” Andersson said. “His outstanding track record and deep expertise make him an invaluable addition as we expand our footprint in Europe.”
Andersson emphasized the company’s entrepreneurial approach to delivering solutions tailored to client needs and expressed confidence in Kroely’s ability to lead in the region.
Kroely, commenting on his new role, said his focus would be on bringing new value to clients through innovative approaches, analytics, and ideas.
“Our ultimate goal is to make a difference to clients,” he said. “Howden Re offers and cherishes an entrepreneurial environment making it the perfect company to develop and bring innovation to clients. This is a unique and exciting challenge.”
Earlier this month, the reinsurance specialist named Grange Turner as managing director of international casualty and head of international motor reinsurance.
In his new role, Turner will focus on Howden Re’s global international region, with particular emphasis on the UK and Nordics.
