Oceanside Police said they found a large quantity of narcotics inside the plane Thursday morning.
OCEANSIDE, Calif. — Two Oceanside residents onboard a small plane were arrested Thursday morning after an emergency landing on State Route 76, the Oceanside Police Department said.
Officers received a call about the landing on Canyon Drive at 1:43 a.m.
When they arrived on the scene, they searched the plane and found a large quantity of narcotics inside the plane.
The two people onboard the plane were arrested and taken into custody.
No injuries were reported.
The pilot reported engine failure as the reason for the emergency landing, the Oceanside Police Department said.
Flight tracking website, FlightAware shows the plane departed Mesa, Arizona at 11:09 pm MST. It was scheduled to land at 2:02 am.
According to public records obtained by CBS 8, the aircraft is a Piper Dakota single-engine plane. The tail number, N1711T, is registered to Leadturn LLC. Public records show the owner of the company is Thomas Fries of Point Loma.
CBS 8 called the number listed for Mr. Fries but no one answered.
The Federal Aviation Administration will be taking over the investigation.
